Grades 3 - 6

In this class, we introduce students to programming concepts using Scratch, a drag-and-drop creative coding platform developed by MIT. Students will be instructed to make a Mario Kart-style game and then pick custom characters and tracks to customize their games.

Home Technical Requirements For all Classes:

• Computer: PC (Windows 7 or later) or Mac (OSX) with at least a 2GHz processor and 4GB of RAM

Chromebooks, Tablets, and phones typically DO NOT Work.

• Internet: Broadband internet
• Webcam
• Microphone and Speakers
• Zoom Installed on the Computer
• Students should be comfortable using a PC, mouse, and keyboard.

Additional Technical Requirement:

• Scratch account – Instructions will be emailed
• PC needed (Windows or MacBook), will not work on Chromebooks, tablets, or phones.

Please note that the Super Mario Game Coding and Game Coding: Mario Kart classes have the same course descriptions since the classes have similar concepts because they are both Super Mario-inspired and use the same software. Students will be completing different games in each class.

Program Prerequisites: Students must be able to use a keyboard and mouse to operate a computer, follow two-step directions, and verbally communicate with adults and peers
