Game Coding: Mario Kart

In this class, we introdce students to programming concepts using Scratch, a drag-and-drop creative coding platform developed by MIT. Students will be instructed to make a Mario Kart-style game. Then, they will pick custom characters and tracks to customize their games.

Home Technical Requirements For all Classes:

Computer: PC (Windows 7 or later) or Mac (OSX) with at least a 2GHz processor and 4GB of RAM

Chromebooks, Tablets, and phones typically DO NOT Work.

Internet: Broadband internet
Webcam
Microphone and Speakers
Zoom Installed on the Computer
Students should be comfortable using a PC, mouse, and keyboard.

Additional Technical Requirement:

Scratch and scratch account- Instructions will be emailed
PC Needed (Windows or MacBook) will not work on Chromebooks, tablets, or phones.

Please note that the Super Mario Game Coding and Game Coding: Mario Kart classes have the same course descriptions since the classes have similar concepts because they are both Super Mario-inspired and use the same software. Students will be completing different games in each class.

Virtual Zoom Meet

Program Prerequisites: Students must be able to use a keyboard and mouse to operate a computer, follow two-step directions, and verbally communicate with adults and peers.
