Get your children trained with SafeKids 101, and both of you will feel more confident about their safety at home and in the community. This program is chock-full of important safety principles. This program teaches what all parents want their children to know about safety!     Grades 2-6 Join Science Explorers as we investigate a wizard’s laboratory. You will become an apprentice as you learn the science behind the magic. Explore the secret world of alchemy as you create scientific potions, harness electricity to build your own wand, and more in this fun, hands-on imaginative class. Science Explorers Staff Program Prerequisites:Basic Skills: deductive skills, able to follow verbal directions, ability to work on their own, large motor skills, fine motor skills, ability to build simple projects on their own, willingness to clean up after experiments.
  • Summer Math By Mail for Elementary

    > Completed grades K - 6 in 2023-24 Summer Math by Mail has helped thousands of students keep their math skills sharp over the summer. This “pen-pal” style course was developed by a veteran teacher and offered in several metro school districts for more than 20 years. The packets the students will receive were created with the MN State Standards in mind. The instructor, Jill Yeager, has taught elementary and middle school for 32 years. She is currently teaching sixth grade in the Wayzata School District, where she also served as a Q-Comp peer coach for four years. -Jill Yeager Registration deadline: June 28 Correspondence Course | $109 #7184-S1 - Summer Math by Mail Grades K - 1 Completed Kindergarten or 1st grades in 23-24 K-One Summer Math by Mail has been developed to review and enrich math concepts for kindergarteners and first graders. The curriculum is designed exclusively for students just completing kindergarten or first grade. Summer Math is not a tutoring program, and it is not designed to advance students ahead. It is designed with the MN State Math Standards in mind and offers the practice of previously learned concepts to keep skills sharp and build confidence. When all lessons are completed, students will receive a restaurant meal coupon. #7184-S2 - Summer Math by Mail Grades 2 - 6 Completed grades 2 - 6 in 2023-24 Keep your math skills sharp over the summer. A veteran teacher developed this 10-week “pen-pal” style program. Materials that students will cover during the summer review support concepts they have encountered during their previous school year. Summer Math is not a tutoring program, and it is not an enrichment program to advance students ahead. It is designed with the MN State Math Standards in mind and offers the practice of previously learned concepts to keep skills sharp and build confidence. Students will take a pre-test and fill out a questionnaire to individualize their program. Students will then receive nine weeks of materials. Each week’s packet will include five math lessons with problem-solving activities. The activities will apply to a specific math concept or strand. After the student has completed a packet, they will mail it in. We’ll make corrections, provide feedback, and mail it back. Students may start and finish the course at their own pace throughout the strands. When all lessons are completed, students will receive a restaurant meal coupon. Payment will be charged at time of registration as this is a correspondence course.
  • Summertime in the Parks

    >For children entering grades 1-6 If you enroll more than one child in the same week, please select the "Additional Child" for any additional children of the same family. Summertime in the Parks is an opportunity for kids to get outside, participate in activities, and burn off some surplus energy. Experience what Delano parks and playgrounds have to offer! Participants should bring the following items: sunscreen, bug repellent, water, and a snack. These will not be provided. We will take a snack/water/*bathroom break every day at 2:00 pm. (*Not all locations have bathrooms) Participants must bring a water bottle, hand sanitizer, sunscreen, bug spray, and a snack to class each day. These items should be clearly labeled with their name. Sign up for one week or both!! Pre-registration required. Registration deadlines for each week are listed below. Week 1: July 15th - July 18th (Registration deadline: Wednesday, July 3rd) Athletics/Outdoor Yard Games Week - Barb King Park We will play various team-style games such as kickball, whiffleball, and football. We will also play yard games throughout the week, such as capture the flag, freeze tag, and red light green light. Week 2: July 22nd - July 25th (Registration deadline: Wednesday, July 10th) Water Week - Central Park We will be cooling down from the hot summer heat with activities that include a Slip n’ Slide, the Splash Pad, water balloons, and water guns. Participants are encouraged to bring their water guns and toys. (Meet at Big Rock Park each day.)   • Super Mario Game Coding

    > entering grades 2 - 5 This course will give you hands-on experience developing your game using Scratch 3, a visual coding platform. Students will learn to think like programmers and learn coding concepts while creating a 2-dimensional, arcade-style Super Mario Bros.-themed game. The first part of the class will be instructor-led. With any remaining time, students will have the opportunity to customize their games. Bring a USB drive to save your games. Please bring lunch and a drink. Tech Academy Program Prerequisites: Participants must be able to follow a series of directions, verbally communicate with peers and instructors, and collaborate with their peers.

    > Grades K - 6 The Tiger Paint Club will have an open studio-type setting where kids can come and just free paint. Joining the Tiger Paint club will allow young artists to express themselves however they want on their canvas with an experienced artist’s guidance! All supplies provided. Bring an after-school snack and a paint shirt or dress for a mess! Tamra Kowalski Program Prerequisites: Participants must be able to hold a paintbrush and other similar utensils, follow two-step instructions, communicate with peers and instructors, and work independently or with a group.

Students will make and take home multiple rockets of varying difficulty throughout this session. We will use these rockets and airplanes to investigate basic aeronautical concepts, including propulsion, thrust, lift, drag, and more. We will also hypothesize about travel in outer space, how to get a United States astronaut to Mars, and life on Mars. Do you have the right stuff?
