    For ages 2.0 years to kindergarten This class is for the whole family! Each week will feature a variety of learning activities based on a theme. Each theme will address an important developmental aspect for young children. For example, creative arts, music, and movement, exploring science and nature, constructive building, language and literacy, early mathematics, and sensory experiences. Come to this class to start your day and learn the benefits of play-based learning with your children. If you also have a younger sibling (13 mo-2.0 years) you may call the office to register them to attend if space is available.

  • Practice Preschool (child only)

    Ages 2 ½ to 4 ½ years Children have a chance to try preschool one day a week! Parents drop off children at the beginning of class and pick them up at the end. While your child is here, they will learn to stand in line, sit at circle time, practice being away from home, and ask a teacher for help when needed. Your child will make new friends and practice social skills in a group setting. The class will have choice time (sensory, fine motor activities, sorting games, puzzles, art mediums, manipulatives, math games, and science experiments), circle time, snack time, use of the large motor room, and storytime. Snacks provided. Participants must be fully toilet trained.   • FREE! Baby & Me (non-separating)

    Ages 0-13 months | Come and join other parents and enjoy time with your new baby. Spend the entire class together, engaged in sensory, language, and literacy, movement/exercise activities, and a licensed parent-educator-led discussion. Many lifelong friendships are made here. Come for yourself as much as for your baby. We sing, learn, laugh, connect and share! Sibling care is available -- sign-up during registration!
  • FREE! Coffee Connection

    FREE! Coffee Connection It’s time to relax, talk, and enjoy a cup of coffee with other parents! The goal of these classes is to improve parent-child relationships by working toward acceptance and encouragement. Activities will include parent education, games, hands-on activities, parent discussion, and parenting sharing. A licensed educator leads the parent discussion, while trained childcare personnel lead the children in learning/play activities. Sponsored by Delano ECFE/School Readiness, Wright County Human Services, and a Delano-Loretto United Way grant. Pre-registration for childcare is required. Childcare is Free for participants attending the class, but space is limited.

  • New! ECFE Outdoor Nature Class (Parent and Child)

    2.6 years + plus with a parent/caregiver Forest Time: Explore the great outdoors with your child The natural world is a giant, open-ended learning laboratory. Children are innate scientists and love to experience the sights, scents, sounds, and textures of the outdoors. Nature provides countless opportunities for discovery, creativity, problem-solving, and STEM education. In nature, children think, question, and make hypotheses — thereby developing inquisitive minds. Come join this class with your child and learn about the “Sense of Wonder” through your child’s eyes by being outside and surrounded by nature. Every week there will be a variety of planned interactive outdoor activities for you and your child. The instructor, Maggie Olson, has a master’s in environmental education, with extensive experience in planning outdoor education experiences for young children. Classes will be held at Lake Rebecca, so come dressed for the outdoors. Meets weekly at Lake Rebecca Playground ** Please note, there is no childcare available for siblings, we apologize for the misprint in the brochure.

  • Family Play Time! (Non-separating)

    For ages 1–5 years This class is for busy families wanting to connect with their children through play and fun. Parents and children will enjoy learning activities, crafts, sensory play, and teacher-led circle time with music and games. We will end our time in the gym or large motor room for big-body play. Come to play, learn, and connect with other families. Sign up for one, several, or all six weeks. Note: There may be weeks where you will meet at a park instead of the classroom, weather permitting. REGISTRATION NOTE: Must register online to attend. Please register all members of your family that will be attending. The deadline to register is Thursday the week before the class. Note: A minimum of registrations will be required to hold these evening events, if not met, sessions will be canceled. Teacher: Camille McMillan
  • FREE! ECFE ANNUAL TOUCH-A-TRUCK VEHICLE FAIR

    Calling all vehicle lovers!!! Come and join us outside at the Delano Central Park Parking Lot, where there will be a variety of service vehicles (squad car, ambulance, fire truck, city vehicles, etc.) to touch and explore. Other surprises have also been planned. This is the ECFE’s Statewide Program’s 50th Anniversary! Come celebrate this huge program milestone with us at this event!!! We will again have the ‘Brick Oven Bus’ food truck and the ‘What’s the Scoop’ ice cream truck on-site for you to purchase food, beverages, and desserts. Free will donations will be accepted. All donations will benefit the Delano Community Education Center Playground renewal fund. Saturday, May 4 - 10:00 am - 12:00 pm} Free Register your family online so we know you are coming! Delano Central Park Parking Lot (across the street from the splash/pad/municipal baseball field, with parking on the street for families)
  • Daddy & Me: Decorate FLower Pots and Planting

    ages 2 1/2 – 5 years Join us for a fun evening of painting, planting, and playing! Fathers and children will plant and decorate a flower pot just in time for Mother’s Day. After the flower pots are finished, children are invited to make a Mother’s Day card and play with classroom toys. A perfect night of Daddy & Me bonding or a great way to make a Mother’s Day present! Wear painting clothes.

Classes are held outdoors each week unless we contact you due to inclement weather conditions in which case, the class will be held in CEC Room #219. If it is rainy and drizzling make sure your child is dressed in rain gear (raincoats, boots, hat). Because your child will be attending an outdoor classroom, there will be additional requirements to make the learning experience successful and positive for all students. Your child should come wearing only tennis shoes or boots (NO OPEN-TOED SHOES OR CLOGS OR SANDALS). Children must be completely toilet trained. Sign up for one class or all FOUR! Please note the registration deadlines for each class. (1080- S1) Week 1 --June 3 - Water: Children will observe water in the natural world and that water comes in a variety of forms such as lakes, rivers, streams, clouds, fog, rain, puddles, snow, and ice. Registration Deadline: May 29 (1080-S2) Week 2 --June 10 - Bugs & Insects: Children will explore questions like; what is a bug and what is an insect? How are they different and similar? What is the purpose of bugs and insects? We will use bug catchers, bug boxes, and magnifiers to study these tiny creatures. Registration Deadline: June 5 (1080-S3) Week 3 --June 17 - Plants: Children will learn that plants have parts and are living beings that have a purpose. Children will observe how plants can be as small as a blade of grass and as large as an oak tree, and they come in many different varieties. Registration Deadline: June 12 (1080-S4) Week 4 --June 27 - Mud & Soil: Children will explore dirt. Where do we find dirt? What color is dirt? What do we do with dirt? Dirt comes in many forms, colors, and consistencies. Registration Deadline: June 18 Bring a backpack with extra clothes, a full water bottle, and a snack for your child to each class. Please apply sunscreen to your child before class time.

  • Purposeful Play in the Park

    13 Months to Kindergarten This is a traveling class located at various parks in our community. Timed right before lunch and naps, it’s a great addition to your summer! Each week, families will be led by a licensed teacher in an engaging circle time, enjoy 45 minutes of playtime, and close their time together with songs and fingerplays. This class will give the children a chance to meet new friends and practice social skills all while moving their bodies and enjoying the outdoors. The entire family is welcome to attend. Note: The circle time activities and props are designed for the registered children only. Our first class will be held at Delano’s Inspiration Park. Please bring your filled water bottles for the morning and have your children wear sunscreen, play clothes, and no sandals or flip-flops. **Note: Class will be held at the CEC gymnasium in case of inclement weather.     Birth to 13 months Come and join other parents and enjoy time with your baby. You and your baby will enjoy activities in the area of movement, sensory experiences, language & literacy, music, and exercise. Parents learn about their baby’s physical, social and emotional development through discussions based on the interests of the class.   • Join ECFE for Summer Field Trip Fun!

    Three years to Kindergarten with parent/caregiver attending For all field trips, you must register all family members attending. There is no provision for strollers or car seats on school buses so they will not be allowed on the bus. Fees are based on the individual field trip site charges per person attending and bus transportation fees. Please note: There will be a minimum number of required registrations before the field trip will be able to happen. There will also be a maximum capacity based on the site regulations or the bus capacity maximum. No refunds will be given to any participants that miss the bus, you are welcome to drive yourself and meet us there. 1111-S1 Thursday, June 13 Como Zoo Join our ECFE staff members on this fun-filled morning at the Zoo! Lions, tigers, and bears, Oh My! Plan your morning accordingly as there is so much to do and see and a short amount of time to see it. We will have an Eye Spy activity that you and your child/group can complete while you enjoy the Zoo. There are places where you can eat your bag lunch or you can purchase food at various locations within the Zoo compound. Plan to arrive at school by 8:30 am. We will promptly depart by bus from the Delano Community Education Center at 8:45 am. Please park across the street from our building. We will leave Como Zoo at 12:45 pm. Fee: $7.00/person Free Will Donation to Como Zoo (suggested amounts:$4.00/adult $2.00/child) 1111-S2 Thursday, July 11 Minnetonka Regional Park (Playground and Swimming Pond) Plan to arrive at school by 8:15 am. We will promptly depart by bus from the Delano Community Education Center at 8:30 am. Please park across the street from our building. We will leave Minnetonka Regional Park at noon. (12 pm) Fee: $10.00/person This morning field trip will allow you to move between the 20,000-square-foot, multi-level, nautically themed play area which includes a cargo hold, climbing nets, structures, and numerous slides to the filtered & chlorinated swim pond which has a 3-foot or less buoyed area up to a maximum depth of six feet. This swimming pond also offers changing rooms, a concession stand, and large umbrellas for shade. You can pack a lunch and eat at the play area before you get back on the bus or purchase items at the swim pond concession stand to eat at the beach area.
